And so it begins!
Today I had my orientation at ACNM! It was all the usual stuff about course structure, what they expect you to do in your own free time, the 'we look down on plagerism' talk and all that. It seems quite a broad range of people starting at the same time as me. A few straight from school, but mostly middle aged women. It will be interesting to see how many freak out and leave after the first few weeks (God I hope I'm not one of them).
What I'm really liking so far is that it's very much research based information not just hearsay. But then the guy giving the talk started to talk about how he has a crystal in his pocket everyday. That kinda stuff makes me cringe a bit. But I figure I'll pick and choose the information that I want. I can just ignore all the hippie stuff.
The lecture rooms were very well set up and it all looks extremely professional. Also it looks as though they really encourage you to be hands on as much as possible. They have lab like rooms in which you can do all kinds of stuff. He was talking about one herbal medicine class in which you get to make tinctures, pills, capsules even pesseries and sapositories! I like the idea of only prescribing things anally! haha
On my way home I popped into office works and bought some supplies. Ben was amazed when I told him I only spent $30. He reckons he can never leave that place without being $100 poorer. I can see what he means, I saw a gorgeous leather diary worth $70 that was speaking to me. The povo-student attitude won out though and I only bought some pens cheap plastic folders and couple of note pads.
My friend Tim is being an absolute pet and helping me get a laptop organised. He has to be one of the nerdiest people I know (in a good way), so I totally trust what he's telling me that I need. I looked in Harvey Norman the other day and was just overwhelmed! I just had this massive feeling that if I started to speak to a sales person I'd get ripped off and end up paying for stuff I don't need. All I really need is something small with a decent battery life that I can do assignments on and also that I can access the web on. THAT'S IT! I don't need to burn DVDs, watch movies, make electronic music, cloan sheep, rip mp3s, launch a space ship. None of that crap thanks.

I heard the next version of the iPod is going to be able to clone sheep, as well as a number of other species :) On a more serious note, good luck with the course! I'm looking forward to hearing all about it. My sciencey brain instinctively wants to poo-poo naturopathy, which makes me think I need to know more about it before I should make up my mind :)
Yeah there is a lot of quakery out there (crystals in pockets, honestly!) which gives those of us who want it taken seriously a hard time.
The main objectives to naturopathy are that we don't heal disease, we give the body the tools to heal itself.
"we don't heal disease, we give the body the tools to heal itself"
I hope that's your slogan from now on :) I like it! (and i believe it too)
