Giving Blood...

Is something I have always wanted to do, but have never gotten around to doing. I was talking to Renee about it a few weeks back, so we decided to go as a group. Renee made the booking, and 4 of us turned up for it Monday just gone.
Now me being the idiot that I am forgot my ID so they wouldn't let me do it. That left Alex, Renee and Tony.
Now the worst part about that is that Tony has an understandable fear of needles and anything medical/hospitally after hospital visits as a child with his asthma. So there was Tony giving blood not feeling too great about it, and me just standing around doing nothing.
I felt so guilty roping him in to do it, and I didn't even do it myself. But the upside is he managed to do it long enough to get 400 ml of blood which is a usable amount. I'm so proud of him, that despite his fear he came along and went through with it. It would have been a lot easier to say no, but he knew it is such a worth while thing to do that he did it.
Did you know one blood donation can save 5 lives?! Definitely worth the effort.
So I will be making an appointment to do it next week instead, and hopefully do it on a regular basis. You can give blood every 3 months.

Last time I went we went in a group of four. It ended up that two couldn't give blood due to illness and the other girl couldn't give enough, they just couldnt' suck it out.

I ws on the lowest iron count possible but still gave blood.

Giving platelets is the best way to give blood apparently but it takes almost 2 hours I think.
